Richard started playing bass guitar when he was about 19 years old.
He really had no idea how to read notes or how to tune a guitar.
Soon he learned to play songs from well-known bands, including U2 and the Cure.
A short time later he started his first band The Tribe, a psychedelic rock and punk band in Vlaardingen where he was active for a good 13 years.
Influences from Queen, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Frank Zappa were soon added to his list.
Later on, hard rock and metal came into play.
Later bands like Pantera, Biohazard, Sepultura, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains Monster Magnet came into the picture.
The last 3 years he has been listening to a lot of Dream Theater from which he learns a lot.
